    A COUPLE say they're too scared to go back to live in their own home after it was ramsacked in a raid by heartless thieves. Donald and Michelle Shearer have been left devastated by the break-in to the house in Glamis Road, Wick while they were on a long weekend break.

    TWO Caithness brothers who have a rare genetic condition have had their life-saving bone marrow transplants. Euan Macleod who is seven, has just had his operation at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow and "so far is doing well" said his mother Janet. Euan's younger brother, Arran, had his transplant in October and is making good progress.

    A CAITHNESS businessman has hit out at BT at the "disgraceful" amount of time it took to fix a broadband fault. John Sinclair, managing director of Caithness Creels, had no broadband connection for almost three weeks and is unhappy with the service he received.

    WELCOMED by a piper on his final day at work at the hospital he helped establish, John Bogle has left his post at Caithness General Hospital for the last time. Joan Lawson has herself to blame for accidentally saying 'no' when she was asked by a consultatant if she wanted a second cataract op, meaning the 75-year-old could face a two-year wait for it. But she believes the new regime is confusing and has publicised her plight to help ensure others do not have similar experiences.

    SNOOKER legend Steve Davis has presented a national award to Caithness-based company Norscot Joinery, for their level of customer service. The accolade for the window and door manufacturer, comes from trade organisation Network VEKA which polled nearly 16,000 households over the year before declaring Norscot the winner for Scotland.

    WICK ACADEMY will be looking to play some trialists in the run-up to the Highland League Cup final in two weeks time, as manager Gordon Connelly faces defensive worries ahead of tomorrow's game with Rothes. Gary Manson and Grant Steven are major doubts after both picked up injuries in Academy's 2-1 away defeat to Brora Rangers on Wednesday night.
