    Default Fit's in 'e Groat 'e day

John O Groat Journal headlines for December 29, 2014

THE loss of a fourth senior clinician at Caithness General Hospital, was yesterday described as "really unbelievable". Long-time patients' champion, Liz Smith, spoke out, after it was confirmed a consultant physician has resigned and is working his three months notice. His pending departure comes hard on the heels of the resignation of a consultant anaesthetist who is to leave the Wick hospital next month.

JUNIOR doctors at Caithness General may not have "the necessary skills" to cover accident and emergency on their own. That's the fear of Wick GP Ewen Pearson in the wake of the suspension of the round-the-clock surgical cover at the hospital.

And the award for Parliamentary Fixer of the Year goes to...John Thurso. The Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP was among the winners in the alternative parliamentary awards organised by communications company Govnet.

A GROUP of intrepid surfers in facy dress are to brave the cold to frolic in the waves off Thurso seafront on Saturday. The offbeat event will launch a drive by a gaggle of local woman to raise money for three worthy charities.

AN anti-wind farm campaigner has called on Scottish Energy Minister, Fergus Ewing, to resign for "deliberately misleading the Scottish people on the true cost of renewables." The call was made by Stuart Young, a former chairman of the Caithness Wind Information Forum in a letter to Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

WICK Academy will be bidding to inflict a first Highland League defeat on Brora Rangers when the defending champiosn first-foot Harmsworth Park tomorrow. Both teams were disappointed when the first of the two, scheduled festive encounters was called off last Saturday because of a frost-bound Dudgeon Park.
