Default Update On Herbie The Rehomed Guinea Pig

My wife and I were delighted to give a new home to Herbie the six week old Guinea Pig.

Herbie has settled in really quickly and was able to go into the playpen with our other Guinea Pig Buddy, who is three years old, on his second day with us. They have accepted each other with no problems at all and I was able to join their two cages via a home made tunnel after a week, which allows them to sleep together or separately, as they wish.

Herbie is a very vocal Guinea Pig and when he makes a lot of noise Buddy always comes to him to see if he is OK. Herbie follows Buddy around most of the time and he is copying things that Buddy likes to do. They have been moved down from the attic room and have a different shaped playpen now, which partly runs under the tables their cages are kept on. There is a small "hurdle" between the tables and they are already doing laps of the pen and jumping the hurdle on their way round.

Still a bit shy with us, Herbie is coming out of his shell more every day and getting more confident. He looks really happy and does a lot of pop-corning, where he jumps off the ground his own height with excitement. He is eating really well and when we weighed him last week he had put on 80 grams in weight from the previous week. I am hoping to combine two bigger cages for them when we are confident that they are settled long term and this will give more space for Herbie when he's a big boy like Buddy.

Here are a couple of photos:-

Delighted to see him and yes he has grown! He always did like his food and was the most full of attitude of the entire litter always up to mischief and winding the others up. Its exactly the home i wished for him and lovely that he is a pal for Buddy. His sister is still here and she too is growing like a mushroom I will try to upload a pic of her if i can figure out how to do it and his mum and auntie

Herbie was 494g when we first weighed him. He went on the scales yesterday and weighed in at 782g, so he's put on almost 300g since his opening mark. Another 300g will see him about the same weight as Buddy and it shouldn't take him long the way he is going.

He's getting more confident around us now and we have joined two bigger cages together to give them plenty room and they are getting on really well together.

Would love to see photos of the relations if you can manage to get them uploaded.

Thanks Liz, I'm rarely on here these days.

Herbie weighed in at 1.04kg last week, so he has more than doubled in weight now.

Here are a couple of photos from a recent snack time. When the pen door is open they place their paws on the rim waiting for their herbs.

It's cute to watch and they start looking for the door to be opened as soon as you go into the room.

    Where's my Parsley Mum:-

    Yum, yum:-
