Grew cannabis plants to ease health problems court told

AILING Gary Pilkington came up with an idea which he thought might act as pain relief.
He intended mixing cannabis into his food but before he could find out if the recipe worked, he had a visit from the police, Wick Sheriff Court heard yesterday.
The 60-year-old admitted producing cannabis plants at his home in Louisburgh Street, Wick on August 13.
He hoped the cannabis might ease the effects of some health issues. The four cannabis plants had a potential drugs value of £1000 had they grown to the cropping stage but they were in a poor state.
David Barclay, prosecuting, said that there was no question of Pilkington smoking the drug. The fiscal tabled a request for forfeiture of the plants and related equipment.
Sheriff Andrew Berry deferred sentence for a background report and a personal appearance by Pilkington and indicated that he did not have a custodial sentence in mind.

Driver will have to resit test after ban

A WICK man, who drove while under the influence of drink or drugs, was banned from driving for a year and ordered to carry out 150 hours unpaid work in the community.
Ross Stewart, 22, pleaded guilty and also admitted a record. The offence occurred on A882 between Watten and Oldhall, on April 7.
The court was told that Stewart, of 3A Ashley Court, Wick, had consumed non-prescription medication. He will require to resit his test when his ban ends.
