Default North action for West Highland Way

Trio in training for popular walk

NEWTON HILL near Wick provided an excellent training exercise for this trio, ahead of their longest ever hike.
The three, Lynda Risbridger, Liz Foubister and Marge Donaldson intend to tackle the popular West Highland Way.
The 97-mile route is no cakewalk. The Wick trio will have to cover between 14 and 21 miles each day and will encounter some tough terrain, changeable weather and of course, those arch tormentors of all who take on the challenge - the midgies.
However, Lynda, Liz and Marge have been getting some first hand tips from some local West Highland Way-baggers, as well as putting in the practice miles.
They start out from Milngavie on July 7 and hope to arrive at their Fort William destination six days later.
Lynda hopes to raise a significant amount of money for the Teatpot Trust, a new charity which promotes art as a therapy for children with chronic illness in Scotland. Her grand-daughter, five-year-old Anna Durrand suffers from rheumatoid child arthritis. Donations can be made via her page www.virginmoneygiving.com/LyndaRisbridger
Liz Foubister's sponsorship will be donated to Epilesy Scotland . Her grand-daughter Morgan Foubister had the complaint for most of her first six years but is fortunately free of it now. Her donation page is www.justgiving.com/elizabeth-foubister
Marge hopes to be able to present sizeable cheques to the two local charities of her choice - MS (Multiple Sclerosis) People Caithness and Caithness Heart Support Group of which she is secretary. You can add to her sponsorship through local shops or by posting cheques direct to her at 11 Ackergill Crescent, Wick, KW1 4DU.
