Thread: Help with bird watching around Wick please.

  1. #1

Default Help with bird watching around Wick please.

I am staying in the Wick area for a few days In May and wondered if there are any sea bird nesting colonies on the cliffs near Castle Sinclair Girnigoe; and if so, where. Most likely to use the car park just South of the Castle and walk the 10 minutes or so to the Castle. Any help would be greatly appreciated about these cliffs and/or of any other spots for bird watching in the surrounding area. Very many thanks,
    Dave.

At Noss Head cliffs to the NE of the castles there are nesting puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes, cormorants, fulmars etc. However their numbers have declined drastically recently. Access to the cliffs at the lighthouse is restricted as its now a private residential property but permission can be obtained from the owner.
Another good spot just outside Wick are the cliffs south of the Castle of Oldwick.
About 20 mils north of Wick the cliffs at Duncansby Head can also be recommended, as can Dunnet Head.

    Stack Rock,

Many thanks for assistance. Much appreciated. Will have to see what I can squeeze into a couple of days; much depends on the weather .... as always ! Thanks again, Dave.
