    Default Jailed for 12 months

Accused had "scant regard" for court orders said sheriff

A MAN said to have “scant regard” for court orders was jailed for a year at Wick Sheriff Court today.
Darren Bruce, 28, had previously denied threatening or abusive conduct towards Lauren Calder and breaching court orders banning him from any kind of contact with her, but was found guilty after a trial
There was a domestic interdict and a non-harassment order in force banning him from having any kind of contact with Ms Calder.
However, at a shop in Thurso, on May 24, last year he shouted and swore at her and made threats.
The court heard that Bruce, who appeared from remand at Saughton Prison, had tried to get help for drugs abuse which had contributed to his record.
Sheriff Andrew Berry said that Bruce should have been well aware in light of his previous convictions that court orders had to be adhered to.
The sheriff added that he had taken the seven months period, that the accused had been on remand into consideration.
