Thread: Caithness Siskin in Isle of Man

  1. #1

Default Caithness Siskin in Isle of Man

A Siskin ringed In Caithness on 25th April 2013 was retrapped in the Isle of Man on 24th November 2013.

Interesting to speculate on the origins of this bird. Was the April sighting a Scandinavian bird passing through Caithness on the way back to breeding grounds after wintering more southerly in the UK and then returning to the IOM the following winter or a Caithness breeding bird which then wintered in or passed through the IOM the following winter?

Either way, it adds a bit of mystery to the Siskins appearing on Caithness feeders. Where do yours come from and go to?

    Pterodroma

Not seen a Siskin all winter in the garden or Achvarasdal but this week they are back in force on the feeders just outside the door, such bonnie wee burds.

Same at Thrumster. Siskins back, along with Goldfinches, neither of which I've seen all winter.
