Ingredients:

8 ounces butter or margarine

4 ounces sugar

12 ounces porridge oats

Method:

Melt butter/margarine in large pan with the sugar. When sugar nearly all disappeared, remove from heat and stir in all the oats. Spread out in tin of choice and bake in moderate oven until just golden on top. Leave to cool for a wee whiley, cut up and leave to go cold in tin. Keep in cake tin or plastic box.

This has infinite variations. A favourite here is to replace some of the marg and sugar with golden syrup. Another is to spread apple sauce on top as it is cooling, delicious!!
