    Default Pte Neil Jonson - Seaforth Highlanders WW1

    Seeking information on Pte (Piper?) Neil Jonson / Johnson/ Johnston/ Johnstone, 2nd Bn. Seaforth Highlanders, died (of wounds?)1917. He's on the Olrig memorial. Looking to find his history and locate any living relatives for WW1 project.

    So far we have found out that Pte Neil Johnson Died of wounds on 26th January 1917. Age 31. Son of Neil and Oswaldina Campbell Johnson; husband of Isabella Jane Johnson of 27 Grove Lane Thurso Caithness. Native of Olrig Caithness.
    Any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks

    In Voices in the Wind by Ally Budge page 198
    It says
    ‘’JOHNSTON, Piper Neil (2nd Seaforth Highlanders ) nephew of
    Mr Donald Campbell, Castletown – wounded April 25th 1915.
    Died of wounds , June 26th 1917.
    (Also on Thurso Memorial.)’’

    born 26 Sep 1885 Olrig as Neil Jonson. Mother Oswaldina Campbell not married - and father named as Neil Jonson.
    Neil Johnston at 9 Scrabster Farm Thurso in 1891 with his mother. Oswaldina Campbell.
    1901 he as seaman on vessel Jessie Sinclair.

    He married 1916 Isabella Jane Sutherland. His residence Macbeath buildings Castletown. He is a soldier.
    Parents Neil Johnson and oswaldina Campbell deceased. More data from certs if required.

    Oswaldina Campbell died 1902 aged 38 In Castletown , Olrig, daughter of Oswald Campbell and Mary Sutherland (think this should be Janet Sutherland). Informant was don Neil Johnson

    I think I know who the father Neil was.
