Default deleted files still there but hidden

I have an Acer Aspire 5535 laptop and it only has 12.5 GB free space left out of 111Gb on the C drive .
I've deleted a load of files and photographs but the free space remains the same.
The last time this happened I followed directions in a magazine to find the files and delete them, but can't find the magazine.
Does anyone know how to clear my C drive ?
I've run Glary Utilities and CC Cleaner and now a test file I deleted went to the recycle bin , instead of disappearing somewhere. So that's an improvement.

might be an idea to run chkdsk

    right click C:

    properties
    tolls
    check now
    tick boxes
ack yes to next boot run

    then reboot

If that doesn't help I would be inclined to do a search for particular files.
You'll most likely get a big list but something you thought you deleted may show up which will give you a pointer to a directory which you can then open.
Best results will require unticking "Hide System Files".
    Be careful when deleting.

    Another option might be:

    Right click on C:

    Select properties

    Select Disk Cleanup

    Follow prompts.

Just depends upon where and how windows has stored the files!

Thanks for the help. I ran the cleanup on C, but the memory is still very full. it only made a small difference. I'm not so sure about going down the BrianJM route but I'll have a try.

Default Clear out the Recycle Bin

    Hi

Just read this tread and I was wondering if you still had a problem ... anyway one of the things to remember when using a Microsoft Windows based operating system is that once you delete files they are kept in the Recycle Bin - yes hidden, just go to your desktop and double click on the Recycle Bin icon to open this up - you can then select files to be removed (or restored) permanently. Alternatively right click on the Recycle Bin icon and select Empty Recycle Bin.

    Hope this helps.

Is this problem ongoing, or resolved? If the latter can you reveal what you did which made the difference...

Thanks for the help. I ran a deep clean with CC and manually deleted lots of files. They still arent turning up in the recycle bin but don't seem to be going to some hidden file, as they were. I still havent figured out where I found the hidden file before and definitely dont have the magazine article ! Time will tell !
