Default Viking 'Parliament' Discovered Beneath Dingwall!

    From livescience

A Viking parliamentary site that dates to the 11th century has been found beneath a parking lot in Scotland.

The site, located in the town of Dingwall, Scotland, was dubbed a "Thing" site, referring to its name in antiquity. Like other Thing sites, this one was likely a place where ancient Norsemen gathered to settle legal disputes, uphold laws and make key political decisions.

    Nothing new here really.

When I lived at Hill of Forss I used to love walking to "Things Va" which was the Viking parliament site for Thurso. You can see the whole town from there and the stones are arranged in a circle to promote debate. I'll bet there was more common sense in those days that there is today !

I suspect there are many such sites.

The word Ting (not Thing) is still used today in Sweden - Tingshus is the courthouse, Tingsrätten is the district court, landsTINGet is the County Council.
