Progress made in addressing issues
THE embargo on admitting new service users had been placed on the home after a Care Inspectorate report found that it failed to meet minimum acceptable standards.
Since then, NHS Highland has been working closely with the home’s management to ensure that the issues identified in the report are addressed.
And Bob Silverwood, NHS Highland’s north area manager, said "significant" progress had been made, allowing people to be admitted to the home for respite care.
He said: "We are satisfied that the significant improvements that have been made at the home are such that we can now admit people for respite care, on the proviso that ongoing monitoring is carried out to ensure that improvements are maintained and developed."
Mr Silverwood added: "Progress towards addressing all the issues identified by the Care Inspectorate is continuing, and we are hopeful that we will feel able to return the home to normalcy in terms of admissions."
NHS Highland’s embargo on new admissions at another Wick care home, Riverside, remains, although Mr Silverwood said they were continuing to work with the home’s operators to ensure that it can be lifted as soon as possible."
