Thread: Family history in Wick.

  1. #1

    Default Family history in Wick.

Am in the process of researching my mothers war-time experiences in Wick.

She is supposed to have worked for a company called Sloans or spelt Sloanes.

They may have been in the Wick Laundry business, or Gents or Ladies outfitters.

If anyone has any knowledge of this company could they please reply.

Sloans were primarily a drapers who operated from a shop at the east end of High St. Wick. They also had travelling salesmen - one of which was famously trapped in his car for a few days which was burried in a large snow drift on the Ord in the late sixties. They ceased trading some time ago and the building which is next to the camps bar is now derelect and an eyesore.

As Stack Rock has given you the history, no need for me. Who was your mother? My Uncle also worked there and I know others still alive who did.
Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts.
