Camera Cleaning!

I have just rung Sutherlands as this is the only place i could think of that might clean cameras, but the lassie i spoke to said they don't
Does anyone know of anywhere either wick or thurso that will clean to sensor and lens on my Nikon D70?

in the summer I was also trying to find somewhere to clean my camera sensor and I ended up trying Jessops in Inverness. Even they would not take on the job and suggested sending the camera back to Nikon (I also use a D70) but they said to expect the job to take at least six weeks, needless to say I did not send the camera away and have been editing the dust spots out ever since!
I have bought a cleaning kit to do the cleaning myself but just have not plucked up the courage to attempt it yet!

Have you tried FFordes near Beauly. They have been very helpful to me in the past (but I haven't had to get a sensor cleaned yet!) They support professionals from all over but will give a comprehensive service to the public as well.

Hi I used to have the D70 now have brought the D1X. I sent my D70 at first to Nikon if it is new or not that old then they will clean for free. I have brought my self a cleaning kit. It can be don but I do warn you if you do not believe that you can do this then don’t try you may break the Sensor. I know Jessops will not do it they will send it away. However I think Grumpyhippo is right I have not tried them but they are a big company. So you like taking pictures why don't you try coming to one of the Thurso Camera club nights there is one on the 15th Jan at 7.15pm Miller Academy.

Why not do it yourself. Contrary to what you may be told, it's not that difficult if you take a sensible approach. The sensor itself is protected by a piece of transparent material and it is this you are cleaning, not the sensor itself.

I gave them a call this morning but they do not clean the camera themselves, they just sell the stuff to do it yourself
However he was helpful in as much as he gave me a name of a company in glasgow that should know the name of the company there that does clean cameras am trying to get through now.

I have found out it is a company named AJ Johnson on Hope street for the D70 he will charge £37.60 and it takes about an hour to an hour and a half, i think a day trip to glasgow may be in the near future!

I took Norscots advice and tried http://www.intemos.com/. I got their basic cleaning kit, sent in less than 24 hours, and had a go myself. I have a D50 and it is simple to lock the mirror up and see the sensor. I followed the instructions with the kit and it seems to have worked and no problems. I will have to get out in daylight to check again but that irritating smudge is no more.
The basic kit supplied is still not a bargain at £13 for 5 glorified Q tips and 10mls of fluid but if it does the job and saves a trip to Glasgow it can't be bad!
