No let-up in campaign against offenders says police chief
THE head of Northern Constabulary's Road Policing Unit has warned that there will be no let up in police activity to target those who fail to heed the drink/drug drive laws.
Between last Friday morning and Monday morning this week police detected five people who chose to risk their lives and the lives of other road users.
Incidents of note included a 22-year-old man who was reported for drink driving by an off duty Police officer in Lerwick on 18 January 2013 at 21.36 and a member of the public reported a 23-year-old man who had been involved in a single vehicle road traffic collision in the Dingwall area at 0625 on 20 January 2013.
Head of Road Policing Unit, Inspector Neil Lumsden, said: "The festive safety campaign is finished but these results highlight that we are following through on our promise to deal robustly with drink and drug drivers throughout the year. Drink or drug driving is a totally unacceptable practice which puts the lives of pedestrians and other road users at risk."
He added: "We would like to thank the public for their continued support, as one of the drink drivers caught over the weekend was as a result of information provided by a member of the public."
