ANGRY Thurso residents have urged Highland Council not to award Tesco an extension to planning permission to build a new supermarket in the town, after five years of inaction. The permission the supermarket giant was granted in 2007 for its Ormlie Road site, expired yesterday but it has asked for a three-year extension. THE Traill Hall in Castletown is an important, historic building and should be saved. That was the finding of a local survey which has just been published. The majority of those who took part, favoured the 19th-century hall being restored as a child care facility but also accommodating a range of other uses. Three options were presented to the public at an event which was held by the Traill Hall Community Trust in October last year.

Weir might be back from down under to ease the striker crisis at Wick Academy, but for manager Barry Wilson it has presented a new problem. Lukasz Geruzel has been one of the club’s stand-out performers in recent weeks, scoring five goals in his last four games to make a very strong case to claim a permanent place in the starting line-up.
