Train spit assault denied by Sutherland man

A BRORA man, alleged to have assaulted a passenger on the train south from Wick, has been remanded in custody.
Jonathon Russell, 30, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared from custody at Wick Sheriff Court, yesterday.
Russell, of 2 Fascally Cottages, Brora, is alleged to have spat on Corinna Ness. He also denies a further charge of stealing a can of cider at Wick railway station. The offences, on January 11, are alleged to have been committed after he was granted bail, earlier on the same day at the local court.
A fresh request for bail, by solicitor Ken Ferguson was opposed by senior fiscal depute, David Barclay and refused by Sheriff Andrew Berry.
The accused will stand trial on February 20.


Accused of drugs offence

Mark Mackay from Wick is facing a drugs charge.
The 22-year-old pleaded not guilty when he appeared from custody.
Mackay, of 29 Seaforth Avenue, is alleged to have been concerned in the supply of cocaine to another, or others at his home, on Friday, or having been in possession of the Class A drug.
He will stand trial on April 17.


Meat cleaver allegation

A THURSO man stands accused of having a meat cleaver in his possession in the local street where he lives..
Thomas Jones, 18, pleaded not guilty when he appeared from custody. The offence is alleged to have taken place on Saturday.
Jones, of St Andrew’s Drive, Thurso, will return to court for his trial on April 17.
