I was out and saw it too, it was the best I have ever seen but I didnt manage to capture it anywhere near as good as that.

I've missed main aurora activity last night. I have seen the great show while driving to the beach but it almost died out before I get there, but still ... I have been able to catch some red rays on my time lapse.

newbies to area would love to see a display like this, anyone got any tips where and when best to see this, we central to thurso area.

I've lived here all my life and have never witnessed the fantastic Auroras captured by some of our members on camera and posted for us all to share. Many thanks to them.

There is a website you can register with Madhatters, they'll email you in advance of an expected good show of "the lights". I'm sure someone here will advise you about the exact address of the website. It's been mentioned before in previous threads.

Much better of with these two sites because quite frankly aurorawatch.lancs is a waste of time.You only get alerts,if you're lucky, when a storm is actually underway and you can see it visually anyway
so the alert is pointless.There have been plenty of displays up here and there have been no alerts from aurorwatch.

The spaceweather live site gives you updated info over the last two hours at 10 minute intervals and the graphs turn from green to orange to red to indicate whether the readings are favourable for
aurora or not.Much better to see the various levels increase in almost real time so you can plan ahead.No point getting an alert when the storm is actually underway because by the time you get to a decent location
the aurora may well have subsided.Always best to get out before anything peaks because a sudden flip of the Inerplanetary magnetic field from North to South can trigger aurora almost out of the blue and stop it just as quickly when it flips back to North again.
