Plan to tap the power of the Pentland Firth

HIGHLAND councillors will get an update on a blueprint being prepared for exploiting the potential of renewable energy in the Pentland Firth

The report outlines the council’s involvement in the preparation of the Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Marine Spatial Plan Pilot in partnership with Orkney Islands Council and Marine Scotland.
Highland Council is working on the third stage on the preparation and consultation of a marine spatial plan that will support the economic development of renewable energy and other sectors in the Pentland Firth area. Current steps include the draft plan scheme which sets out the process and a draft governance paper.
The planning environment and development committee will be invited to note the progress being made and approve the governance and draft plan scheme.
