Roads closed as units tackle outbreak at industrial estate

PEOPLE were evacuated from their homes when a blaze broke out at an industrial unit at Thurso, at the weekend, reports the Press and Journal.
Fire crews from the town as well as Wick and John O' Groats, spent around two-and-a-half hours tackled the blaze at Ormlie Industrial Estate. It started just before midday on Saturday.
Police evacuated residents at Falconer Waters Court because of the thick smoke coming from the burning building. A Northern Constabulary spokesman said there were concerns that the fire might spread to a nearby 500-fallon diesel tank and gas canisters. He added that roads around the site were closed during the incident.
A Highlands Islands fire and Rescue Service spokesman said crews used a main jet, two hose reel jets and six sets of breathing apparatus to bring the blace under control. No-one was hurt in the fire which destroyed the 40ft by 20ft steel profile sheeting building and its contents.
