This Microsoft page gives details of how to take ownership of all the files en masse
I recently had to re-install Windows 7 and since then I ham having a lot of trouble in accessing files on my D Drive (a 1TB internal device)
When I try to go into a lfolder to view files I get a pop up informing me that " Dont have permission to access this folder" and inviting me to click "continue" to do so.
When I do this I am taken through to "Properties" menu and then onto "Advanced" and then "Permissions" and afrer a few more screens I can then eventually gain access to files
As my drive has literally thousands of folders, I don't fancy doing this every time I want to use a file.
Is there a quicker way of doing this?
it matters not who views the folder, the size should be the same.
if you are missing files
i'd be inclined to run chkdsk on the ext drive
right click the drive from explorer.

Did a chkdsk and no errors found.
removed disk from PC, did a reboot, closed down and fitted disk again and I got all my files back!
Thanks DX100UK for giving me some pointers
anytime
i suspect it did find errors but in the first scan which is quick and scrolls off the screen,
prob the FAT was iffy.
