Will "The Hobbit" made as three films be as popular as "Lord of the Rings"?
Release date for the first part 14 December 2012

they managed to spin it out into 3 films?
That will be slow going for film.
As long as they stuck to the book and took the breaks in film at decent points and there isnt too much waiting between films it should do ok!...
Would have thought it would have made 2 films really timewise or a filmfest of all in one ...and a 3 and a half hour film.....

I thought it was only going to be two films. Thing is Peter Jackson did not stay close to the books on LOTR, so I have my doubts that he will with The Hobbit.

They aren't spinning the book into three films.

The book will cover the first 1 / 1.5 movies (no-one is 100% certain at what point in the trilogy the book narrative will end but the rumours are the first half of the second film). The rest of the trilogy will effectively be completely new narrative 'inspired by Tolkien'.
