O'Brien Construction lands Stromness pierhead project

The contract for the Stromness pierhead regeneration project has been awarded to Thurso firm O’Brien Construction reports The Orcadian this week.
The £3.68 million project will see the construction of two new retail units and the relocation of the town’s library from Hellihole Road to a new purpose built facility at the pierhead.
New office space is also being created — to be shared with Northern Constabulary — providing access to council services and encouraging the dispersal of jobs to the town.
The funding will also go towards the cost of repaving the area with local flagstone, a project which has been carried out elsewhere in the town through the Stromness Townscape Heritage Initiative.
The contractors will start on site in mid-September with final completion expected in January 2014.
