Halkirk part of rail crossings improvements
Highlands to receive priority in nationwide upgrade
HALKIRK is among level crossings in Scotland to have a safety barrier installed.
The nationwide scheme follows the successful completion of a pilot scheme testing new mini-barriers at a level crossing at Ardrossan.
The Highlands which has the greater number of crossings, will be given priority.
Network Rail also said that a half-barrier would be put in place at Halkirk. It was the scene of a crash between a car and a train that resulted in the deaths of three eldery members of the same family, in September 2009.
The Scotland-wide upgrade will cost £4m and is expected to be completed by 2014.
