Supreme sheep win makes history at the Ross-shire show

THERE was jubilation at the Black Isle Show yesterday when a Caithness breeder lifted the coveted supreme sheep award with a hill NCC ewe.
The prestigious award was extra special for Leslie and Tina Robertson of Inkstack, Barrock. Mrs Robertson’s father, Alex Coghill, who manages Welbeck Scottish Farms at Ousdale. Welbeck won the hill championship at least six times, previously but the inter-breed always eluded them.
Inter-breed judge, Jim Robertson from Langhom, Dumfries, was generous in his praise of the three-crop, by Instack Anson and out of a home-bred ewe, as "a great example of the breed".
He said: “She’s a beautiful sheep and a sound mover. She’s got fantastic legs, a great specimen and just what a sheep should look like.”
The delighted Roberstons run 1,200 ewes, of which 400 are pedigree.
