    Default Geese.

Walking along the river last nigh I watched thousands of Geese flying over. I estimated about 4000 couldve been more. Darkness was just setting in. Same again tonight but only about a thousand. They were flying east to west. Whats going on and where are they going?

They are Pinkfeet geese and coming in to roost on Scrabster Loch, I would think they are waiting for a suitable wind direction before heading home. The wind has been against them for weeks just as it is against our summer migrants arriving.

Thanks for that Kas. Scrabster loch must be covered in geese. Where do they winter and why are they coming in from an easterly direction?

40-50,000 winter on the Wash, they feed on sugar beet tops and stubbles plus some grass.

Thanks for that Nigel. I think all 50,000 have arrived in Caithness.
