Woodman spare those trees plea
Now they might not slice the sycamores in Thurso
HIGHLAND COUNCIL is having second thoughts at controversial plans to cut down trees in the centre of Thurso.
The plan was to uproot the sycamores that circle the gardens in Sir John’s Square and replace them with new ones. But it sparked an angry backlash in the town and a “Save Our Trees” petition grew and grew, attracting more than 2000 signatures.
The campaigners argued that only one or two of the trees were rotten but none of them were unsafe and had stood firm against recent gales.
A council spokesman said that the tree felling had been put on hold pending discussions with locals.
