Default Power link to service north renewables electricity

Subsea cable will be capable of handling large volumes

A 67-mile (109km) subsea cable is to be laid so electricity generated by far north renewable projects can be fed to Moray for onward distribution, reports the BBC, today.
SSE subsidiary Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Limited (Shetl) said it would be able to transmit large volumes of electricity from Caithness.
Renewable power projects in the Pentland Firth and Orkney would feed into the link.
Seabed survey work is expected to start soon.
Shetl will also apply for planning permission to extend a substation at Blackhillock, near Keith, in Moray.
The company already has permission to build a new substation at Dounreay in Caithness.
