    Default Trapped nerve

    The saga continues.

Scorrie,a beardie is having problems with his back leg which are not getting better.
We,ve tryed to rest him as much as possible, cut down on his portions and keep him warm and dry.Unfortunatly he still cant use that leg properly.

We saw another vet yesterday, usual one on holiday and she suspects a trapped nerve in the hip joint aswell as the ligament damage around the joint.

Another few weeks of tablets and rest, then back for a xray which still might show nothing. She also recommended heat applied to the joint and gently rubbing of joint.

Anyone know anything about trapped nerves in dogs?

    thanks.

Aw poor Scorrie and poor you!

If it is a trapped nerve massage and heat should help.Do you have an acupuncturist in your area as this would be worth trying.
It may not be a trapped nerve but muscle tension due to not being able to use his poorly leg.

What size is Scorrie? I have a fantastic ceramic wrap which I got for Benjy as his injured leg plays up in the colder months. I have a spare one which I could send you if it would fit.

If not I can give you the details.

We,ve not got any "doggy" specialists here Liz but have looked on the internet and there's lots in the Glasgow area so i guess we'll be going down soon.

He,s a big beardie, collie and not sure whether he'd keep any kind of wrap on.I've managed to get him to lie on a covered hot water bottle, not for long though.

I guess we'll have to wait until we get that xray, though that might show up nothing.

Done a search on the internet and he could have potentially done all sorts to his muscles, tendons, joints etc.

He's so miserable just now we're hidding all ropes and pointie instruments.Thankfully he's still got a good appetite and plays with his toys.

Maybe the warmer weather will help.

This is the wrap I mean http://www.backontrack.com/uk/products/dog/leg-wrap/

The one I have for Benjy wouldn't be suitable for Scorrie as it is the hock wrap. There are no worries about it staying on as it has velcro on it which sticks really well and it's also very comfy as it's not at all heavy. Benjy wears his whenever he is resting and especially over night.

I really do think it would help! It's made such a difference to Benjy along with natural remedies.

He has a pin in his leg following a bad fracture and sprain and doesn't even limp and is now approaching 10!
