Bill for repairs tops half-a-million pounds

RECENT storms caused almost £600,000 of damage at the Dounreay site.
Felt roofs at a new building being erected beside the Dounreay Materials Test reactor and a waste plant bore the brunt of the damage. The reactor’s former transformer house was also badly damaged as were sections of the new perimeter fence.
Site facilities management contractor, Johnson Controls, secured contracts worth about £500,000, to carry out the bulk of the remedial work.
Radiological safety was not compromised during the fierce gales.
