Default Academy chairman warns of possible league changes

"We will do everything we can
to protect what we have" says
    Colin Stewart in year's review

Wick ACADEMY chairman, Colin Stewart has pledged to fight the club’s
corner amid potential changes in the framework of some of the Scottish
    leagues.
He flagged it up among the challenges facing the Scorries in the New
Year, in his review of 2011.
The SFA is currently considering a pyramid system in which there will
be a Super League (Highland Super League and Lowland Super League)
below the SPL and SFL. The SHFL would then drop down to the
    non-professional leagues.
Mr Stewart said: “I would be happy to discuss this with anyone who
wants to know more, but I can assure you, we will do everything we can
to protect what we have and our voice will not go unheard." He paid tibute
to all concerned for their support throughout the year but added that
more backing would be required to faceing the financial challenges ahead
    caused by ever-increasing costs
Academy has been awarded a SFA youth quality mark, confirming the
calibre of the clubs youth set-up and it will be applying for a
national club licence in January and are confident of obtaining it as
one of the first in the Highland League.
Mr Stewart highlighted the changes in the team management which saw
Davie Kirkwood arrive at Harmsworth Park with former co-manager,
Tichie Hughes remaining in his new role as assistant manager.
Their influence has been reflected in the current state of
progress...won six, drawn two and lost 8, and presently sitting 12th in
the league table with games in hand.
Mr Stewart commented: “The league is so tight in the mid section and
we can progress up the league in the year ahead. We have quality
players that can do that for us.”
