Default Memory Managers for Windows XP

What do people think of the above? Are they any good or do they just add to the clutter of XP.

Hi This is directed at dx100uk.

In your reply to Anfield you mention how to free up RAM by getting rid of start up programs. On my XP computer I have 1Gb of RAM but if I print out my start up programs they go to a full A4 page.

Does any out there have an idiot guide as to what to remove. It looks so complicated and I do not know what most of them do.Don't want to remove something that might be required.Removing them one at a time and sucking to see is a bit tedious.
    Regards AK.

Sorry Anfield for hogging your post but I thought this issue would be of general interest.

dx100uk I am not going down your path but thank you for showing interest.I was hoping for a more general reply that others on this forum might find simple and useful.

    Redards AK.

well then use a searchj engine

there are hundreds of sites that tell you what to do
and there are hundreds of sites that will tell you 'what'
an entry in your msconfig file is.

    we cant be mind readers

As per 'dx' above but there are some easy 'housekeeping' tasks you can do.

Uninstall any programs which you will probably never need/use.
Then in each program's options/settings menu if there's an option for starting with Windows, deselect it if necessary.
If there's still too many then run 'msconfig' and go to the startup tab. Some care and expertise needed here so if you don't know what a program does or why it is needed then don't change it.

As always, backup the registry first.

Memory managers are a complete waste of time and resources, any supposed improvements are a complete fiction.

As for performance: Most computers ship with more stuff turned on than is needed (yes that includes Macs and some versions of Linux) also lots of them ship just full of pre-bundled crapware and free trial stuff, such as a media manager that requires an SQL instance. Take a look at these for further advice:
