    How long do you boil salt herring for ?

    I always boil them twice. !0 minutes is plenty.

    I havnt had a decent salt herring in yonks.

    You can't "boil" salt herring nowadays, they will disintegrate in the pan. Believe me, I have tried it.

    A good soaking overnight or two if needed, change water then gentle simmer for 20 minutes. They are still very salty though.
