Panda-ring to public preference?

THE arrival of two giant pandas at Edinburgh airport caused quite a stir, this afternoon, taking the lead story on some sound and vision news bulletins.
But is Tian Tian (Sweetie) and Yang Goang (Sunshine) from China really worth all the star-studded treatment, let alone their new, 250000 custom-built home at Edinburgh Zoo.
The management say 'yes', particularly if the pair breed and successfully produce cubs.
What do you think? Is it a shrewd gamble, in the current economic freeze?...should such rare animals be political pawns? Should they be left to roam free in their own familiar environment, without man's interference?
