Default Scottish Cup 1st round-Nine is just fine

Scorries' cup overfloweth in their Scottish tournament opener at Harmsworth Park

    Academy(9)hot....Coldstream(1)cold

    WICK-Macadie 23, Allan 31, Weir 54 pen, 78, 82, Shearer 61, Cunningham 66, 69,76,:
    COLDSTREAM-Allan 37.

IF there was any doubt at half-time about Academy’s progress to the second round of the Scottish Cup, then it was well and truly extinguished in the second period.
A couple of hat-tricks and a single goal sealed Coldstream’s fate and must have made that 300-mile trudge back home, seem like a John O’ Groats to Land’s End marathon.
Academy opened as brightly as the autumn sun in which Harmsworth Park was basking, and put down a marker, with a goal that was chalked off for offside.
But even after a rapid Macadie/Allan brace in the space of three minutes leading up to the 31 minute mark, Coldstream continued to hang in and demonstrated that, with a deceptive Michael Allan lob.
The second 45 minutes must have been purgatory for the Coldstream camp in general, and their keeper, Mark Walters, in particular, as Academy, playing frenetic, flowing football, carved open his defence, time and again. You had to feel some sympathy for him, as ball after ball hit the back of his net, serving to belie his ability, ably demonstrated with some fine keeping displays, including a couple of amazing double stops.
It will be small consolation to him, but he must be credited with preventing Academy’s goal rush breaking into an even more embarrassing double figures. As it was, the Scorries can surely claim a record of their best-ever( i'gin’) bag of goals.
