Scottish Wildcat?

I think I saw a Scottish wildcat tonight out at Dounreay. The animals eyes were massive in the headlights and very much coloured like a streetlamp, amber coloured. It was the size of a fox and perhaps moved a little like one at a trot. But when the animal turned into profile the muzzle was more cat like and the coat was grey and the tail was ringed like a lemurs but bushy like a fox.
When I slowed down to take a better look I would have sworn it was like an ocelot or something but thick furred but much much bigger than a domestic tabby lol.

I spotted this moggie moving around our area earlier in the year and it matches the description of a Hybrid Scottish Wildcat.

We believe it’s a female since her nocturnal wailing is unsettling our Ginger, a tom. She's twice his size with well defined markings and tawny brown colouring under her chin and on her underside. Her tail is longer and thicker, as you would expect from a Scottish Wildcat. Her black dorsal marking runs all the way to the tip of her tail thus the tail rings are joined on her tail's upper side. Certainly sounds like a hybrid....the tail is usually the give away with the racoon rings and black tip...shared part of my childhood with one who came down from the hills, a very sick lad. It was our vet who told us what he was and once well again and neutered he stayed with us....but only the chosen few ever got to touch him....beautiful creatures.

I am surprised that the cat was neutered if they suspected that it was a 'wildcat' as they are extremely rare nowadays
