One killed-two injured in Caithness crash

ONE man was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash near Thurso last night.
The accident involved a Peugeot car and a camper van. The dead man was a passenger in the Peugeot. The driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be released by firefighters. He was taken to Caithness general Hospital at Wick with multiple injuries.
Two French holidaymakers in the camper van were treated for shock at the scene.
The crash occurred shortly after 7pm on a bend at the approach to the mile-long straight at Stainland on the approach to Thurso. The A9 was blocked for the rest of the evening. Traffic was diverted via Halkirk.
The police road policing unit from Dingwall carried out an on-the-spot investigation. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal at Wick.
