Default Additional cases from todays sheriff court session

Abuse of visiting officials “wholly inexcusable” declared Wick sheriff

A SHERIFF has remanded a teenager who abused two council workers when they called to see his pregnant girlfriend, describing the incident as “wholly inexcusable”.
Sheriff Andrew Berry called for reports on the accused, 18-year-old Peter Campbell, of Ackergill Crescent, Wick, who admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards the visitors, one a social worker, the other a housing officer.
The offence occurred only hours after Campbell had been granted bail on an unrelated matter.
It was stated that the two officials had called, on July 26, to visit Dianna Finlayson who was in the early stages of pregnancy, at her home in Dunnet Avenue, Wick. Campbell appeared to resent their presence and suggested they were interfering.
Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay said that he shouted at the two woman visitors and accused the social worker of raking up his past. The police were called and Campbell appeared in court the following day and was remanded in custody.
Solicitor Neil Wilson said that the accused felt the officials were intruding, and were not welcome and wanted them to leave him alone with the girlfriend.
“Whether that was justified or not, his response certainly wasn’t”, added Mr Wilson.
Sheriff Berry said that as Campbell had been on probation at the time of the offence, reports would be required.
Campbell was further remanded in custody until August 19.

    Shouted at mother

A young man, who shouted and swore at his mother and threatened her with violence, behaved in “an absolutely disgraceful manner” said the sheriff.
Graham Shepherd, of Roxburgh Road, Wick, pleaded guilty. The offence occurred on May 4 while the accused was subject to a community service order.
The sheriff, who was told that his mother had forgiven him for his conduct, said that Shepherd (22) should never have mistreated the very person who was entitled to expect his care, protection and support.
A community pay back order, for a period of 18 months, was imposed on the accused who was warned by the sheriff that he would face a prison sentence if he committed a further offence.
