Bus boss responds to local concern

STAGECOACH boss Brian Souter has kept his word to introduce new bus stock on the Caithness-Inverness route.
He promised the action after lobbying by Caithness Transport Forum, which campaign for an upgrade in the existing fleet. Six new single-deckers, which are wheelchair friendly and fitted with toilets and CCTV cameras, will run on the 120-mile route, from next week.
Forum chairman, John Green, who also chairs the Caithness Bus Users’ Group, welcomed the step and added: “ Stagecoach appears to have listened to local feedback on their routes and their service provision.”
The improvement coincides with new statistics, showing a 14 per cent rise in passengers carried on the route in the past year.
