Family road safety event for parents and their children

HIGHLAND Road Safety Working Group and Northern Constabulary are to host a Family Road Safety Evening to encourage parents to apply good driving habits which it is hoped will be passed onto their children, who will in time, be learning to drive.
The event aims to promote the benefits of safer driving to whole families. It will be held at Police Headquarters, Old Perth Road in Inverness on Wednesday 29 June from 6.30pm to 9pm.
This event is the first of its kind to be promoted through Northern Constabulary Facebook page, and people should sign up to attend by visiting the site's event information and choosing the "attend," option. The Facebook link to the Road Safety event is Family Road Safety Event
Places can also be booked via e-mail or by telephone. However, spaces are limited and the first 50 people to sign up will be guaranteed a family space.
There is also a chance to win a "Pass Plus" driving course worth £150, by attending the event and this is done by filling out an evaluation form of the night. The winner will then be chosen from these forms.
Throughout the evening, those who attend will receive talks from speakers specialising various fields including representatives from the Highland Council Road Safety Unit and the Northern Constabulary Road Policing Unit.
Families will hear real life stories about incidents and collisions, car modification and sensible decision making.
The Driving Instructor Association will also be attending to inform young people and their parents about how to choose a suitable driving instructor.
There will be interactive activities such as the Fife Constabulary driving simulator, a seatbelt convincer (which simulates the impact a driver would experience even at low speeds) as well as a tour of the Northern Safety Camera Partnership van.
The Force's Road Safety Officer, Laura Fisher, says: "This is a free, informative, fun and interactive night for all the family.
"If you have concerns about young people within you family who are already, or are about to start driving then the Family Road Safety Evening will prove to be an extremely useful experience and we would encourage as many people as possible to come along."
