    Default Amanda's silver success

    Blooming brilliant!...that’s Amanda’s Chelsea achievement

A FAR NORTH florist has landed a major award at the country’s top horticultural show.
Amanda Coghill’s jockey’s silk design wowed the judges at this year’s prestigious Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea event and earned her a coveted silver medal. She was up against stiff competition in the Florist of the Year section.
Amanda (26) who certainly lived up to her trading title, Amanda’s Creative Florist in Dempster Street, Wick, was delighted at what she described as "the experience of a lifetime”, particularly as it was her first time at the show.
She said that taking part in Chelsea was “amazing” but winning a top award was the icing on top of the cake! In her entry, Amanda created a jockey’s silk shirt made from two thirds fresh flowers, and foliage material at least.
As she indicated, getting to Chelsea is an achievement in itself, as you have to qualify. Amanda claimed her place as a finalist with a 90 out of 100 marks for her floral shawl which the judge described as “gorgeous".
Noel Donaldson writes: “Amanda’s silver award is a tremendous achievement and I’m sure everyone here will be proud of her. Chelsea is the No 1 show in the country and competition is razor-edged as is obvious from the qualifying round. The show involves the best of the best and if you get in amongst the medals, then you richly deserve it.”
He added: “Amanda’s silver success is also a super advert for floral talent in the Far North.”
