Gibson grabs the glory in north seat
ROB Gibson romped home in Scotland’s most northerly mainly constituency with a thumping great majority for the SNP, emulating the party’s landslide success which saw First Minister Alex Salmond returned for a second term, with a staggering 69 seats.
Gibson polled 13,843 votes, a clear 7458 ahead of his nearest rival, Lib Dem hopeful, Robbie Rowantree, whose defeat was reflected in a backlash on his party, nationally. The SNP victor created a little bit of history as the first candidate to win a seat for the Nationalists in either, the Westminster or Holyrood elections, in the Far North.
No newcomer to fighting the north Scottish Parliament seat, his win notched up a double success for his party. Gail Ross, pulled off a notable win in a by-election for a Highland Council seat in Wick Ward 3, last month.
