Thread: Gold Finches

    Default Gold Finches

Just had two male Gold Finches in our back garden.

Probably quite a common sight, but for myself, not being versed up on garden birds, I was fair chuffed to have spotted and also recognised them.....I'm still learning, LOL !

Thats good. They used to be rare in Caithness, but have increased greatly in recent years. Folks feeding will certainly help them keep a foothold in here. I dont know if they nest in Orkney - if they do so, it will be in small numbers.

This year we have had a lot of goldies in the garden. Lots of blue and great tits as well. Not many green finches, though. Also, no wrens nor long-tail tits, which we used to get a lot of.
