Sheriff calls for reports on assault accused

WORDS were exchanged between two men in a chance meeting in a Wick street and it ended with one of them throwing punches at the other.
The town’s sheriff court heard this, today when John Holmes, 27, appeared from custody and admitted a charge of assault.
Senior fiscal depute, David Barclay said that Holmes and his victim, Edward McGrory, had been drinking. They knew each other, but there was no known history of ill-feeling between them.
The verbal exchanges, in Bayview Terrace, Thurso, on September 25, last year, developed into a struggle and when it was almost over, Holmes lashed out at McGrory, punching him twice on the head.
Sheriff Andrew Berry said, that, as Holmes had committed the offence while on probation, he would have to call for reports, which he will consider on March 28.
Holmes, of Marr Terrace, Thurso, is currently serving a prison sentence, and is not due for release until April 15.
