Super shot, very unusual!!!
dafsorkneybirding.blogspot.com
I missed the previous nights display so i wasnt going to miss 2 in a row.
Didnt know quite how this would work, was very near to overexposing the green
because the display brightened quite a lot not long after i started taking the shots, not much i could do so just left the
"intervalometer" to do its thing.
Absolutely stunning MPH!!!
"Until one has loved an animal part of their soul remains unawakened"
Fantastic result MPH.
I must track down a programmable remote that works with my camera - for star trails I can then enjoy some observing rather than having to remember to press the shutter every minute of so.
Wow... that is a stunning image MPH.
Is this one shot or several?
Whichever, you got a fantastic result.
Its 45x40 second exposures stacked using Startrails(free software)

Cool...
Cheers for the info/link.
Just had this image shortlisted for the Royal Observatory Greenwich Astronomy Photographer of the Year 20011.
Its always rewarding to have your photos selected by experts,be even more rewarding if it makes it to the prize money part ....
Well done, it deserves to be selected.
Well done MPH. Great achievement. Hope you do well with it.

Nice picture MPH i would love to take pictures like that but the cameras cost a fortune and the lenses more so i was told
i was planning to save for a "canon eos 550d digital slr camera (inc 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 is lens kit)"
would this be a wise choice you seem like the right person to ask, its £598.95 would it be worth the money or could you recommend a better model?
It's Nice to be Nice!
Its certainly a very good entry level DSLR although i never used one,i've heard nothing but good reports about them.
I did have a 450 D when i started but after a year or so decided to get the best camera for landscape and night photography that i could afford.
That meant going full frame and getting a 5DMKII and Canon 17-40MM L Lens.Very expensive i know but i had done a lot of overtime and decided to blow most of it on the camera and lens.
I've only ever used Canons so i cant really recommend Nikons from personal experience but there is very little to choose between them imho.
The 550D would be worth the money but have a look at other makes at the price range you are looking at.You could also look at second hand because a lot of people start of with models like the 450,500 or 550D and then sell them when they want to upgrade to a 7D or 5D so good bargains can be found.
Hopefully some of the Nikon users on here like Douglas Cowie can offer you some advice as well but to be honest, you wont get a bad camera, whatever make you choose.
thanks i will look out for second hand one too see if i can grab a bargain
