Christmas reflection
Ode to Christmas tree: (contributed)
ONCE it stood proud in our living room, bedecked in its finery, baubles and tinsel and bright lights. Admired by all. Excited children watching as the Christmas tree was decorated. Not long before it had been bare and growing. Now, the centre of attention, glittering, shimmering, lights twinkling. Old and young come forth, with presents, circling the base of the tree, all colours, gaudy wrappings, almost irresistible, waiting to be torn open to shrieks of delight. Christmas Day. A present for everyone. But the glorious moments are few, 12 magical days. Then, denuded of its gay garb, pulled ignominiously from its fixture...consigned to driveway and the municipal dump. Forgotten.
