A Leatherback Turtle was seen by a creel boat leaving Lybster Harbour yesterday evening (4th Aug) 200yards from Swiney Hill View Point.
Leatherbacks have been seen that are the size of a small car, i'm waiting to hear how big this one was.
This is the second sighting in the Moray Firth, the first was near the rigs on the Smith Bank.
Turtles are very often seen on the West coast but it is more unusual to find them on the East Coast, there have been a few dead turtles reported over the last few years.
I did rush up to the view point with my camera when i got the message but i saw no turtle and i don't think any pics were taken from the boat.
