Thread: Slowing Down Laptop

    Default Slowing Down Laptop

Hi, My laptop is just under a year old and the operating system is Vista.
Over the months I have found that it has progressively slowed down eg. been very slow to load pages and booting up.
I have noticed on the Task Manager, even when only on the internet, the Ram being used varies between 100 Mb and 600 Mb and the processor usage varies between 25% and 100%.
I have been careful and have not installed any 'demanding' software.
Would this high usage cause the laptop to slow down?
I have been in contact with the manufacturer and carried out a recovery procedure and they are sending me a replacement hard drive and installation discs as they think this may help.
I would appreciate any information regarding this problem as my warranty is soon to finish.
    Thank you

    what utils have you run?

    have you tried glary utils?

    how much ram has it?

have you carried out a memory test?

have you run error checking on the HDD under tools [right click/properties
    ]

it will be two things typically
    ram or HDD

i'd go for the HDD having bad sectors chkdsk as above should sort it.

    Default Slowing Down Laptop

    Hi,
Thank you for the possible solutions, I have carried out both the memory

check and the error repair and everything appears to be okay, but

unfortunately, without any improvement with the speed of the Laptop.

I have a 160Gb hard drive and 1Gb of RAM and the make is HP Compaq.

Is there anything else I could try?

    Thank you
