    Default great news re Asda

Great news re asda....councillors have seen sense, they have submitted a notice of amendment on the asda issue yesterday in inverness.
The purpose of the notice of amendment is to have the decision REVERSED at the full planning meeting in inverness on August 16.
tullochs have joined the Asda row. They want it passed.
I can see Asda getting the go ahead, it could be open for Christmas.Hoooray.

Obviously pretty much the whole of Caithness seems to be for an Asda in Thurso and most Orcadians would shop there given the chance when passing as well but I cant help but wonder where all the revenue is going to come from to sustain all these large chain stores in Caithness.

Do they count on the Orkney trade passing through or do you hope to try and get people from Dunbeath, Golspie and Brora etc to come north to shop.

Is there something these businesses know that others dont such as a new nuclear reactor in Caithness which will employ thousands for years?

Low cost operators exist because of high volumes of sales. Caithness and Orkney between them are not a large catchment area so it seems something else is on the cards.

In short, what will you lose to gain Asda or what are you prepared to lose?

Just being Devils Advocate. Hope you get an Asda.

Believe me - these organisations don't take risks. They will have had a team do a complete market research, site research and risk analysis before making any approaches for planning permission. I saw a programme on BBC a few years ago about how Tesco research and plan a new site - very enlightening!

This is great news but I still think we must keep up the campaign! I was told the day after the meeting that Alistair MacDonald intended to try and get the decision overturned by gaining the support of four councillors from outwith the area. I was also told that although this was all positive it still is pretty much down to the Inverness Planning Committee and we have to remember that they recently rejected the idea of an Asda in Inverness and may have no more loyalty to us than our own 'out of touch' Councillors! I am not trying to put a dampener on anything but would hate to think that everyone took their foot of the pedal now. Keep up the good work!! Oh by the way, I believe one Councillor (who voted 'NO') is going around telling everyone not to worry that it will all be overturned at the review anyway!!!!!!!!!!
